I do sort of want to agree with this, but I end up agreeing more with
Rob Croson.
The game does indeed handle it with auto-removals and auto-pause code.
But IMO, logging in once a week, to do nothing other than interrupt the
auto-pause code, is an attempt to avoid this game mechanic. If you log
in once a week, and play to sort out everything that needs sorting out,
then fine. But the spirit of the auto-pause code is that you should be
playing at least once a week to keep the game going. If you log in once
a week, but don't actually do any playing, then that's against the
spirit of the rule, and if anything it therefore merits OOC action for
deliberate abuse of game mechanics.
Tom, you say "find IN GAME ways to deal with it". I thought that
banning someone for being inept and being unable to keep their
region/duchy in shape, or unable to fulfil their role, was an in-game
action. Isn't banning someone done in-game? I didn't think we were
talking about OOC bans here, but IC bans.
Take four scenarios:
- You log in once every four hours and you're doing your job well: No Ban
- You log in once a week and you're doing your job well: No Ban
- You log in once every four hours and you're doing your job horribly: Ban
- You log in once a week and you're doing your job horribly: Ban
Now it may be that logging in only once a week is what's causing you to
do your job horribly, or it may just be your lack of talent in the role,
but surely regardless of the reason, if you're rubbish, you're going to
get protested/banned/etc. Because you're affecting things IC, so you're
going to have people getting annoyed with you IC.
It can be possible to play by logging in just once a week - fine
(especially if roleplayed well), and the realm deals with it. But only
once a year (plus 51 quick
log-in-and-log-out-again-to-keep-the-positions)? There has to be some
sort of limit. That limit is the auto-pause code, and so if people are
deliberately avoiding it, there ought to be some action taken.
