No, she does not have an oath to the ruler.  Just becoming banker  
does not form a bond like that between a region commander and her  
liege lord.
The game needs to have sensible defaults, and assuming that a region  
commander follows the Duke makes sense in the vast majority of  
cases.  Creating a patchwork of exceptions will just lead to  
confusion and bugs.

That may be, but as you note, it had its own problems.
