A scream of pain tore through the quiet, starry night. Danzi clenched 
her fists, perspiration dripping from her hot red face. With the last of 
her strength she gave one final push.

The old woman deftly caught the baby and wrapped her snuggly in soft 
linen. She looked warily at the mother, gripped in uncertainty. The 
other attending midwives had refused to stay with the birthing lady, 
insisting she was possessed. The old woman had seen many strange things, 
but the personality changes within the woman had made her skin crawl. 
She had stayed for one reason, the baby.

Cradled in her arms, the tiny baby had a mop of dark hair, and deep blue 
eyes that stared solemnly at her. Her lips were plump red and sucked 
gently at the air. The woman thought of a friend, a wet nurse, that she 
could give the baby to.

Danzi reached for the baby, and her heart fluttered as she saw the 
midwife's reservation. She contemplated where her dagger was and 
panicked that she wouldn't have the strength to use it. Nonetheless, she 
gazed icily at the old woman, her dry throat rasping as she spoke with 
quiet determination,

"Give us our baby, or you will not live to see another year"

The midwife looked once more at the innocent blue eyes, but was 
decidedly not willing to forfeit her life. So trembling, she handed the 
infant into Danzi's arms before racing from the room.

"She is beautiful" Danzi murmured, tears sliding down her cheek as she 
tenderly touched the infants soft face.

"We will name her Danwin"
