The mists hung eerily over the wetlands stretching from either side of the
palisade. The fields muddied from the overnight frost. Thalathafn, torch in
hand, trudged forward with determination. His unit struggled with the heavy
siege engine over the soft ground. Quietly they formed a battle line outside
the ill defended palisade. As the first rays of sunlight sifted through the
mist, the Arcaeans surged forward with a battle cry breaking the silence of
the burgeoning morn. Squeezing through the siege tower and pouring over the
walls, his men quickly overwhelmed the valiant defenders.

As quickly as the battle had begun, it had ended with the Arcaean nobles
standing atop the palisade; A small sense of gratification after a minor
victory. To Thalathafn it was only a temporary relief to the anger he felt,
having his Jacket stolen and with it, its commoner. This war had become all
too real, its injustices no longer distant. Ethiala had resorted to thievery
from other nobility. He could no longer sit comfortably in Remton waiting
for orders. Lantzas was a first but it would certainly not be the last. The
coming of spring would usher in a new era. No longer would he wait for the
coming onslaught, but charge into it Jacket or not.
