(OOC: Warning, graphic violence.)
Captain Krieger arrived at Mhed, his normal port of call when he arrived
from the Far East. He and his men had heard the stories of the daimons, but
never really believed them. "Daimons as big as houses, my arse. You know
stories always double in size every few miles. The Far East is hundreds of
miles from Beluaterra. I bet they're nothing more than imps," Horly said as
he jumped from the boat up onto the dock and tied it off.
Captain Krieger knew the city was too quiet. He had heard of the last
invasion and didn't risk his ship coming to the dock. He and ten of his men
took the shoreboat to the dock, "Rolph, Massy, ye two row this boat back out
t'a safe distance. I don't wannit bein' o'errun by undead or anything afore
we get back." He turned to the others, "The rest of ye are with me. We're
goin' t' find a living soul in this city, find out what we gotta know an'
get back t' the ship."
They left the craft and started up the dock towards the warehouse. They
opened the door and the stench that greeted them almost brought them to
their knees. Cargo from ships had been rotting in there for some time. But
that wasn't the only smell, Film whispered, "I dunna like this, Cap--"
He was cut off by a large snort. A large rusty cargo containers started to
topple then righted itself, stood up and rounded on them. Its eyes, hungry,
black, abyssal took in the men and then leaped at them, bounding across the
warehouse. The captain and a few of the men whose brains realized that this
nightmare approaching them was real took flight. It was mere seconds before
the thing was at the door, one of its massive feet pinning Horly to the
ground, a massive hand encircling Virol's torso, crushing it slowly while
its other held Film and started biting his limbs off one by one. A
metallic-scraping echoed from its mouth in what one could only assume was
glee.
Outside, the men were signaling and screaming for the boat to return. It
started rowing for the shore when the side of the warehouse exploded, the
daimon issuing forth. That was all Rolph and Massy needed. The boat turned
around and headed back for the ship.
The daimon let out an ear-wrenching screech of metal-on-metal and leaped
onto one of the trailing men. It ripped him in half before bounding on
Harby, crushing his leg beneath a massive paw. It carefully turned the man
around so it was facing him, though it didn't let up on the leg, so it
popped out of the socket. The man didn't even notice the pain as his mind
was raging against the possibility of this abomination existing. It used
one of its claws to carefully slice open the man's torso and let some of its
saliva drip into his open chest cavity. His mind stopped raging against
impossibilities and took notice of his insides being eaten away by an acid.
The scream that erupted from the man was inhuman, though human in its
brevity.
The Yarl, Monton and the Captain were making for the water. Upon turning,
the Captain saw that the beast was done with Harby. He also saw that Yarl
and Monton were ahead of him. *Daeni, forgive me. *He unsheathed his sword
and cut Yarl's hamstring. The man's momentum brought him to a rolling heap
on the floor which the daimon quickly pounced on.
That was all the time that Monton and the Captain needed to reach the
water. They both dove into the water. The captain surfaced and saw the
daimon playing with Yarl before he swam for all he was worth. Yarl
surfaced, "Help! I can't swim! It's bad luck!"
*Bad luck my ass, I'll make my own luck*, thought Captain Krieger as he
continued swimming for his ship as Monton dipped below the surface again.
