"I am the mistress of this estate Jens, and you are in my bed. Granted I
asked you be brought here. I trust you were treated well"

Jens looked at the woman. Mistress of this estate. Did that mean she was
Duchess Annaej's lover? Why would her lover want him to come sleep with the
Duchess? She sure was confusing him.

Jens became slightly worried by this, until he remembered that women always
confused him. Then he relaxed.

He still didn't understand why Duchess Annaej was over by the door, while
her mistress looked like she was going to climb into bed with him. Then
something clicked.

"I am still waiting for this present you wish to present in person."

"Ah, jeez - the cheese!" he almost shouted, and, with total disregard for
his state of undress, jumped out of bed and ran out of the room, presumably
to recover the cheeses he had left in the entry hall.

Ain strode briskly through the streets of Eno, heading for the Duchess'
estate. It was nice to have new things to see and new people to
greet…everything felt clean and fresh. She found the main gate, and informed
the guards of her invitation. Obviously, word had been sent, because they
allowed her in without any difficulty. She strolled up the path to the
house, enjoying the view of the fine house as she approached. Being a
duchess looked to be a fine thing.

A servant greeted her at the door and escorted her into the parlour to await
the pleasure of the Duchess. She settled back with the proffered
refreshments happily—well, ale would have been better than wine, but food
was always welcome. Yes…it looked as though things were going well here
already…now, if she could just find out where that aggravating Jens was…and
then…what…after that…she wasn't really certain.

Annaej emerged from the archway of the tower followed by Amelie and a large
piece of cheese on a silver platter. She gracefully drifted over the Ain and
took a seat in the armchair across from her. The servants shifted the small
round table in the room beside where Ain was sitting and placed the silver
platter along with the cheese on it. The ivory vase and Jens' flowers were
relocated to a place above the mantle of the fireplace. Other servants
brought pieces of bread from the pantry to go along with the cheese. Finally
all the servants save Amelie had left the parlour and Annaej spoke.
"Welcome, Ain, to Eno, I hope your journey was well. So you have come
seeking Jens. He was here not too long ago. In fact that piece of cheese
beside you was gifted to me by him last night. Sadly it is the last piece of
cheese in the city. Eno has been starving again as of late and food is
scarce in the city." Annaej paused at this sentence, a grim look on her
face, as she has had to say it many times.

"I believe Jens is away looking for goats for his estate and other sources
of food for the city." Annaej continued,"Speaking of estate, I see you do
not yet possess one so I have had a guest room arranged for you upstairs.
You may stay with me until you decide to depart. I will also provide some
gold so you may purchase some cheese from outlying regions for yourself and
the rest of the city." Amelie produced a small brown leather pouch. "You
will have to speak with Lord Niallan for the exact route Jens is taking if
you decide to go after him. Alternatively you can wait here for his return."
