Thalathafn lay in his quarters, the hint of a smile caressed his cheek. He
sat up, having spent the past hour laying there, thinking, in the silence of
the autumn night. He couldn't help but smile as he thought of the children,
the smile on their faces, the wonder in their eyes, as he told them of his
heroic tales. Sitting around the bonfire of dried leaves in the orphanage
court yard, Thalathafn had found what was missing. He was home those few
days in Lantzas. The autumn bonfires of his youth, how they raged under the
harvest moon. The orphans, oblivious to the stark contrast of the season and
their meager diet, always radiant during his visits.
Thalathafn threw on his cloak and ducted through the flap of his tent. He
trudged through the sludge of fallen leaves, damp from the previous nights
rain. The cool autumn air filled his lungs as he paced through the camp. The
sentries stalwart at their post with the braziers lighting a small radius
around them. Thalathafn knew the Sartanian troops were coming but for now he
let the men sleep. But it would seem like he, some others could not sleep.
Their silhouette against the background of a glowing fire. Thalathafn
looking for some company wandered towards the figures.
