Though it is something she rarely does, Ariana orders a coach for her
trip to Ansopen. Once in its privacy, she opens the burlap sack the
adventurer Reika gave her—not demanding any money for it, simply
asking that she "take the cursed thing"—and empties its contents onto
the seat opposite her.

Carefully, Ariana examines her new acquisition. The Book is bound in
leather black as night, with runes etched on the spine in something
the colour of dried blood. On the cover, letters in a strange
language form patterns that seem to turn the eye away from it.
Beneath, in a much more unsteady hand and in plain ink, the words
Dark Book of Necromancy are written.

Using her least favourite dagger, she lifts the cover and turns the
first few pages. As she suspected, the writing inside is completely
unintelligible. Turning, she pulls from her pack a scroll bound in
blood-red ribbons and very carefully unrolls the first few inches of
it. She looks closely at the writing on the scroll, comparing it to
the writing in the book, then closes both and sits back in thought.

They are not the same writing, she thinks. They are clearly both of
inhuman origin, but they do not appear to be closely related...

She looks out her window for a while, drumming her finders on the
sill. Suddenly, she remembers something, and rummages through a
sheaf of papers, finally coming up with the one she is looking for.

The last letter I got from Delvin before all the ships stopped going
to Beluaterra...he spoke of the undead, who he'd fought before, but
he also spoke of a new terror, demons from the very Pits of Aya
themselves....

If the Book of Necromancy is something to do with the undead...then
could the Scroll of the Damned be something to do with these demons...?

I must show them to Morthwyl and Hoshi as soon as possible...
