Thalathafn glared out his window as the first snow fall signified the coming
of winter. A fine white powder covered the rooftops and drifted in through
the open window at which he stood. But those unfortunate snowflakes met
their premature end against the warmth of his skin. Thalathafn turned from
the window and added another piece of wood to the fireplace. Travel,
communication and even time itself seemed to slow during the winter months.
Thalathafn couldnt help but let his mind wander as he gazed into the flaming
embers. It reminded him of his childhood with his foster parents, the only
family he had ever known. The bleak contrast was made ever more apparent to
him now, as he sat alone in his room, during a time when families gathered
around the fire to pass the colder months. Finding that he had too much time
to think, Thalathafn decided he needed a distraction. He put on his heavy
coat and picked up his sword from the table. Securing his sword around his
waist he ventured into the hallway and turned down the set of stairs. The
bottom of the stairs opened into a large commons area where his men had been
gathered, alcohol in hand doing what they did best. Thalathafn nodded to his
captain as he passed by on his way to the large wooden doors. He pushed open
the doors and stepped out onto the newly fallen snow. Aimlessly he began
down the subdued street of the sleepy city, waiting, just waiting for
something.
