The rooftop was obviously not designed to be open. Even calling it a rooftop
was generous. It was more of a platform. It gave the feeling of standing on
the top of a tall, rickety stool. And on this rickety stool, there stood two
people, both battle-trained. One trained on the solid ground with a sword.
The other high up on a horse and well-used to this rickety, old stool.
Screndt took in the view with Evangeline, the people in the city below were
ants. The next-tallest pinnacle was a good 15 meters below. No one could see
them up here. The wind ripped the words from their mouths so that they could
barely hear each other. "The view is truly spectacular."
Duke Screndt slowly walked around the edge of the stool, "You might be able
to make out the spires of Partora if you look closely," he said as he
started to the east and continued clockwise. "The Ubentian mountains. The
lush forests of Beziers. The town of Bisciye and its supporting farms,"
Evangeline followed his walk around the edge, his steps sure and seemingly
unaware of the danger. Merely turning and watching him was making her dizzy.
Screndt turned towards Evangeline and kicked the hatch shut. "We wouldn't
want to trip over that, My Queen." He looked back out to the west, "The lush
fields of Lorient and its awe-inspiring coasts. All of these were Perdan's
once. What took it from us?" He turned back to his Queen, "Who took it from
us?"
