Evangeline watched as the Duke strode out of the room, she wouldn't want
to be Breck at that moment. With a sigh she looked down at the dessert
in front of her, calling to one of the serving girls waiting by the door
she asked,

<i>"Why is the Duke so fond of broccoli?"</i>

The girl eyes nervously flitted around the room, and she stammered as
she answered,

<i>"My Queen, he was informed that you loved broccoli and wished to eat
it in everything."</i>

Evangeline frowned slightly, <i>"who would give him such a red herring?"</i>

At the mention of the fish the serving girls eyes lit up,

<i>"Oh, my sisters friends uncle serves Baron Milo in the Perdan Mines.
She says they have a roaring trade of all sorts of fish - herrings and
trouts. Maybe he got it from there."</i>

As the Duke strode back in with his shoulders back the girl scuttled
back to her place. As he began to explain a new custom, Evangeline
realised that Breck must have informed the Duke her of distaste for
broccoli.
Grinning happily and admiring the Duke's clever recovery of the
unfortunate situation, Evangeline savoured the fresh gelato when it
arrived and the following two courses were superb.

Once the meal was over, all ten courses in total, Duke Screndt held
Evangeline's chair while she stood. Together they made their way to the
Church with the tall parapet, so that Screndt could share with her the
view from the top.
