Duke Screndt was pleased that Evangeline was now enjoying the meal. "No, My
Queen, my tastes are rather simple. But a guest such as yourself is a great
occasion and I hope the meal is fitting. I have in my employ one of the best
chefs on the island. He is fond of making meals for the festivals and the
balls that are thrown for the lesser Nobles. He is especially fond of having
a theme run through the meal. One ingredient that is at the core of all the
dishes. I do not require seven servings when dining alone, so the themes are
short-lived, but I trust you will enjoy the different dishes."
Evangeline thought back to the last dish. *Please let it be something other
than broccoli. What was in that last dish?* She looked down at her current
dish, trying to find the similarities. *Milk? Umm...not much else in common,
is there?* Grasping at straws she pined to herself *Maybe it's pepper! Oh,
please, let it be pepper. Parsley? Salt?*
The next dish came out, broccoli Arrabiata. It was followed by Broccoli and
omar raviolli, which begat bacon-broccoli salad with raisins, which begat
broccoli and cheese soufflé. Throughout the meal Queen Evangeline forced
herself to eat portions of each dish, feigning interest. Although the talk
was pleasant and the view exceptional, it seemed like the torture of the
meal would never end.
But finally, it was time for dessert. Surely there couldn't be broccoli in
the dessert. Perhaps it would just be on the side...or as flourish. If it
were *in* the dessert it would smell like... butt.
Finally, the dessert was presented: broccoli Macedoine.
