"Ziode is an unreplaceable person And I will have to hold a special
medidation session to aquire the name of the new Magister. I Would advice
you to do the same. Luna shares her wisedom to those who need it."
San mused on this message of Pierre's while in a coach south. He had left
his scribe in charge of essential business, such as meeting with Percival,
and then headed out into the southern woods of Ortedail.
Though he knew his way around many of smaller settlements, he instead left
the coachman at the end of Black Street and walked towards the southern
beaches.
He sat thinking, staring out over the sea, when he noticed an older man
kneeling and praying a few yards away. He watched for a moment and then
walked over to him. As he approached, he recognised him as Golovny, the
youngest of the members of the Ortedail Spice Guild, an establishment whose
members were increasingly rare to see in public because of their age. San
remembered that he was not a follower of Luna, and put his hand on the mans
shoulder.
"Praying to your god for guidance?"
The man looked up, and relaxed when he saw who it was. True, he might not be
well acquainted with San, who did not meddle in the affairs of the freemen,
but as count of Dsinanas it was fairly sure that he meant no malice.
"Sometimes I wonder," he replied softly, "Whether they will ever answer me
without just giving me the idea that leads to the decision. But what brings
you here?"
"Ziode has left, as you may have heard. He was last seen boarding a ship in
the harbour bound for the north. But in our religion, he was a Magister of
the Dawn that comes, and Pierre suggested to the other Magisters that we
should meditate on who his replacement, if such can be found, should be."
Golovny mused over the problem for a few moments, before replying.
"So you want to find a teacher who can help the followers of the religion
understand the dawn... Though I do not follow Luna, doubtless her disciples
have done good things. But perhaps you need to communicate with the common
followers more
have you considered a freeman?"
San frowned slightly.
"No, I haven't. There may be a few, but the demands have always implied the
need for a noble
one willing to dedicate their time to the order."
Golovny shrugged slightly, and patted san on the shoulder.
"Maybe your god will give you guidance. What I can tell you is that I know I
must be home, and that is not my gods telling me but the time when my
landlord locks up. Good night to you, and I hope our conversation helped."
As he walked off, San gazed absentmindedly off over the horizon, not paying
attention to the cold breeze coming in as the last rays of Sol disappeared
and Luna shone out over the water.
Abruptly he shook his head. He had an idea, and a good one at that. Now to
convince the others
he sighed. He would have to do it tomorrow.
