The scribe nodded to her and did just that. She quickly grabbed
Gorian's and unfurled it along the 'full' axis. The scribe grabbed
Lisa's and did the same.

After a few moments of perusing the data, Péché concluded, "A nice
family history, but no mention of York." She grabbed screndt2's paper
next and unfurled it.

The scribe was still perusing Lisa's for the data when Péché's breath
caught in her throat. The first item in the history. Plain as day.
Commander of York. She closed her eyes and tried to steady her
shaking. She finally gave up and opened them again. Commander of York.
It was still there. She finally pulled her eyes away from the words
and looked to the column where the names were. "EMPTY!?!?"

She sprang to her feet, brought the paper over to the scribe, grabbed
him by the back of the neck and screamed, "WHERE IS THE NAME? WHY IS
THERE NO NAME?"

The scribe was quaking and he stuttered a reply, "I-I-I d-d-don't
know, M'Lady. P-Please stop, M'Lady." She was shaking him, seemingly
ready to throttle him to the death. "M'Lady, let me see the paper."

She thrust it into his hand and stepped back from him, attempting to
calm herself.

The scribe looked over the old paper, "Ah, I see, M'Lady. This is a
very old family. As you can see, there isn't even mention of when they
started their careers! This family stated during the Dark Time of
Scribing." Proud of his diagnosis, he smiled up at Péché, but the
smile was burned from his face by the glare Péché gave him.

"Who was the commander?" she hissed.

He quickly looked back at the paper, "Well, M'Lady, the date is right
for your birth. And it seems that screndt2 was then appointed as Judge
of Hasland a mere month later. I'm thinking we may have found our man,
M'Lady."

Péché grabbed the paper from him, "It says he emigrated to the 'New
World'? What is the 'New World'?"

The scribe smiled and seemed to look into his past, "Ah, the
memories...that was the previous name of Beluaterra." His face
darkened, "Before the monsters came."

Péché looked back at the paper and her heart sank, a whisper escaped
her lips, "Retired?" The paper fell from her hand, she fell to the
floor, her shoulders slumping.

The scribe had a curious expression on his face and picked up the
paper. He beamed, "Wait, M'Lady! It was a quirk of the Dark Times.
When people emigrated, the scribes denoted it as a retirement. See?"
He brought the paper in front of her, "It says he retired the day
after he emigrated. And he was appointed commander of Fheuvenem a mere
8 days after that. He could not have retired! He must be," he paused,
the fact setting in, "your father."
