Roleplay from Lek

It had been a long day. After an early morning skirmish, and a few hours
working around the camp, Lek had spent some time working out with her
men. They were all recovering from injuries, however, so eventually she
sent them back to camp, while she herself continued to train. Anything
to keep from thinking. Finally, her exhausted muscles drove her to
return to her tent to wash and rest—there was bound to be another
skirmish before the day was over.

She was laying in her tent, unable to sleep, when the messenger arrived.
At last. Lek was on her feet in an instant, all but snatching the
missive from the poor boy. Leaving her acting Captain Dorian to tip him,
she retreated to read the letter in private. Lek’s hands were trembling
as she opened the note. She read through it rapidly, then, frowning,
read it again.

Forgotten her? The pain stabbed through her. Of all the things she had
thought El would write, this she had never expected. Dear gods, why had
she fallen in love with a madman! Lek wasn’t sure if this was an
improvement over the impostor or not. At least he had known who she was.
She couldn’t even tell from the letter if he was planning on staying in
Outer Tilog or not. Arkon’s Beard! Couldn’t Elrdred have been more
precise? Lek needed a course of action—and this just told her to wait.
She was sick of waiting.

Lek lay back on her pallet. She wanted to weep, but she had no tears
left. She lay there, staring at the top of her tent, clutching the sword
that was never far from her. At least El had told her he wanted it back.
Well, if Sennianus wanted it, he was going to have to come and get it.
