Lek shouldn't have time to worry when there was fighting to be done. 
And, when she was actually fighting, she didn't. Then there were only 
the sounds of battle--cries of triumph and of pain, the clash of steel 
and the twang of arrows--and in the midst of the dust and blood she 
thought of nothing but her men and the swing of her sword and the 
satisfaction of pushing the enemy back one more time.

But in between the battles...

Then she had time to worry and wait for word that hadn't come. She 
looked down at the sword that lay across her lap and idly stroked the 
strange symbols that marked the sheath. If nothing else, Lek knew he 
would want his grandfather's sword back--that was why she had taken it 
from his belongings.

Even if he never came for her, eventually he would come for this sword.
