Roleplay from Korin
*Korin looks down at the book on the table...The eye was indeed
closed...The book was clearly tattered and very near falling
apart...Korin knew it would take more than ordinary craftsmanship to
save this book from destruction, it would require a sage. He wondered if
that was the reason the eye was closed...But no, that was irrational,
it's not like it was conscious of itself...
Korin reaches for the book Evangeline is pushing towards him, and notes
her surreptitious look around the library. He did not blame her, it
would be easy to see how she could connect the events in Domus to her
being about to show him the book...This time, however, no wayward arrows
were coming for her, and Korin slid the book in front of him. As soon as
he touched it, the eye snapped back open, aware that someone new had
laid hands on it. The eye narrows, then widens rapidly...Then slowly
sinks closed again. Korin wondered if it recognized...but no, he was
being stupid again...Of course it would not be aware of any relation
between him and who he suspected to be its creators.
He carefully opens the book to a random page. The page is entirely
blank, and Korin supposes he has opened it to some sort of separator. He
delicately moves a few more of the frail pages, but finds them to be
blank too. Opening it to an entirely different section, he is
disappointed and bewildered to find no writing at all.
Looking up, he sees his own expression of confusion in Evangeline's
face. Struck by an idea, he closes it and pushes it back to her.*
It is yours. You try.
*Evangeline nods, understanding his theory. She picks up the book and
opens it. Quite suddenly, the expression on her face changes into
something Korin could not understand...something alarmed and determined
all at once...He thinks he has seen that expression before, but he
cannot place where.
Circling around behind her shoulder, Korin looks to see what has
happened...Just as he suspected, words have appeared...But rather than
neatly printed black lettering, the writing is blood red, even shining
with the same sheen of blood, and is spiky, somehow sinister. Korin is
shocked, but does not have time to examine the words, because Evangeline
begins rifling through the pages at a rate Korin cannot keep up with. It
is clear to see why the book had become damaged, because in whatever
state she was in, she paid no mind to preserving the ancient pages,
instead flipping through them like one does through a days reports.
As suddenly as it began, Evangelin's odd trance breaks. The book falls
forward from her hand, landing on the edge of its binding and covers,
then falling sideways to close. She looks at Korin, confused at the
shock on his face...For he was indeed shocked...And slightly frightened.
He backs around the edge of the table, unsure if Evangeline has truly
come out of her trance...He is unwilling to speak the first words, but
his mind was racing...For he had remembered where had seen that look,
and he had seen it often. In fact, it was a part of his career to attend
to those who looked like that...To attend to those who were possessed.*
