YEARS AGO:

A woman and her child, the order said. That was the plan. The reason,
they claimed, was that she was a rebel, plotting against King Dekion. Ebion
II Jr was ordered to Obando, and once there, he should kill them both.

But he could not. Ebion II Jr was the holder of Erthadil, the sword of
Unity. He had made a promise to King Fuinur and to Old Rancagua. The sword
itself had chosen him to defend and represent the realm's values. How could
he be also the one to kill Ragnell Driscol and her son? The mere thought
would make his hand burn.

TODAY:

What kind of noble gets imprisoned in a realm federated with yours?
Evangelina cursed herself. Suddenly it didn't matter that she was a
Sirionite, a knight of Oligarch. They didn't like her because she was a
priest. Or so they say. Most likely, they hated her because she was a
Driscol.

It could have been easy for Evangelina to stay out of trouble. He could
have simply brought the item to Sir Doc's or Sir Handow's, and have them
send it to Old Rancagua, There, the king would decide what to do with it.
Still, that is not what she wanted to happen. That would be really boring.

She had seen the sword glow back then in Kalmar Islands. Even though she
couldn't use the sword herself, she knew that meant something. So she'd
take the risk, enter Old Rancagua again, and just wander until her damn
sword decided to show some sign.
