(Just a little note...this is the first in a series of self examinations by Hoshi of herself...that will lead to some interactive and public action.)
As Hoshi traveled back to Ipsosez from Zolon she was quiet, thoughtful. She had much to account for and so she called upon Forseti, her patron...the god of justice to set her on the path to put that accounting to rights.
She smiled a sad smile as she thought of all that had happened since she'd married Einar, killed him...well tried to kill him...and then banished the man called Einar Forstand av Reven. She had two children...neither of them Einar's, both of them William Draconious, the little birthmark in the palm of each child's hand attested to this. She knew she was fooling no one when she tried to conceal the first pregnancy and when Kieron was born she sent him off with William to be raised by others. What kind of mother does such a thing?
Hoshi had come to understand many things about herself...she was cold and selfish though she cared deeply for her world and the people in it. A paradox of sorts.
Einar had been her one true love and she had promised loyalty. She had failed to deliver on that on that promise. William Draconis arrived in Svunnetland and they became friends and then lovers. She should have pushed him away...she should have remembered and honored the words she'd spoken to Einar...to the realm. But she had not. And even when she knew Einar knew, even when she knew it would hurt Einar she did not turn William away. He was banished from Svunnetland and she kept up the affair.
She had loved, still love Einar, though her actions perhaps did not bear that out.
When she allowed William to return to Svunnetland she did so because he missed his home, but she did so also because she missed him, she missed her son. The affair resumed...and she found herself with child again though she did not hide it this time. A girl, Kenzy. She slept safely tucked away in a caravan...Hoshi would not send her away to be raised by others.
There was indeed much to account for. Svunnetland was in turmoil. Had been for a good long time and as Hoshi rode to Ipsozez she wondered how much of this turmoil was a reflection of the shortcomings of the Queen. For a land often mirrored the moods of her ruler. Perhaps the gods were punishing Hoshi with a blight upon Svunnetland. A silence in the realm and a time of great loss.
