Sir Galiard Scarlett of Semon, Grand Justicar of Lasanar,
You requested a response in my particion in the Lasanar Rebellion four and
a half years ago. I will tell the people what really happened one last
time. After this, I consider the matter closed, no matter the outcome. I
dont wish to re-enter a propaganda war again, where each side calls the
other a liar and honourless.
You will receive no statement from Daran Hawk. He was killed by Yarah,
former imperator of Arcaea, in a duel by accident.
Daran founded Lasanar in Colasan. It was the first realm to originate
during the Big Devide. The people of Colasan felt neglected and ignored by
the enormous Empires of Svunnetland and Arcaea. Daran created Lasanar for
the people, by the people.
I served Lasanar as Duke of Ossaet, and Minister of Defense at that time.
Together with Ryft and another we created a radical and revolutonary
Republic. We actually cared about the common people. We didnt treat the
peasants as livestock or recources as every other nation does. We did our
best to make them happy. No hangings or visible police, low taxes, only
merciful and just courts. And ofcourse we advocated peace. There was high
investment in habitats and infrastructure. Ossaet has built the first
Academy on FEI, and was the first city to have stone citywalls. Colasan
and other regions were quickly improved aswell. Many peasants heard these
rumours, and Lasanar quickly gained many regions. Saome of them by
volentary choice of the people themselves.
When Daran thought his job was done, I took over as Prime Minister. Milan
von Krondor, my friend at the time, I gave my old position. Something I
still regret to this day. Once he had tasted power, he didnt want to let
go. We were at war with the Highland Empire. Still trying to to achieve
peace, Milan wanted to convert to a pro-active strategy. He even suggested
to move the capital to Ozrat. All totally against the spirit of Lasanar at
the time. I managed to keep Milan quiet for the timebeing.
If you give your subjects a lot of freedom, than there will be situations
you will have to allow although you dont like it. Lasanar at the time
believed in second chances. I gave asylum to nobles who were banned from
the Highland Empire. They all swore an oath to me, and I had no reason to
doubt that. Milan and Daran expressed their discontent, though they never
asked me to change Lasanar Law at that time. I was acting according the
Law.
Also because of our radical believe, heritage was less important. Anyone
could be bestowed a title or function, if he/she showed enough talent.
This was how I became Duke of Ossaet, how Milan became Duke of Ozrat, and
how Xbeaon became Duke of Sasrhas. Again protests by Daran and Milan,
again no pertitions to change Lasanar Law.
Now it becomes interesting. Lasanar was the largest realm on FEI, winning
a war against the Highland Empire, at peace or allied to everyone else,
save one or two distant realms. It was during this time that I was
contacted by The Elders themselves. They had a divine mission for my, and
I had to travel south. I answered this Devine Calling and stepped down.
Milan was elected as Prime Minister. Three days later, The Elders
transported me to the Colonies to teach me the things I needed to know for
the future.
Two seasons later I returned to Lasanar, battling undead monsters for it
seemed like aeons. Lasanar was a mess. Selfabsorbed with power Milan had
angered almost everyone. Cebre ended the alliance with Ethalia. Milan had
to buy them back with the region of Hupar. Einar threatened to declare war
upon Lasanar. To avoid a three(!) border war, Milan gave away Ahael. The
third war was started by Xbeaon, who seceeded Sasrhas into the Kingdom of
Kaltaran because of discontent with the way Lasanar was let.
I returned at a perfect time. Daran and Milan needed a scapegoat, I became
it. Confident I was to be re-elected soon I underwent their verbal
attacks. Well, mostly verbal, Daran put a price on my head in public.
Because many befriended nobles had left Lasanar out of anger and Darans
and Milans speeches proved effective I lost the elections. Daran was
leading the military at the time. I served a time under his command, and I
couldnt believe the things he made us do. Stealing gold, raping women,
burning crops, inciting us to a point that the men were calling for blood.
This all happened while Milan had NOT changed the Lasanar Law I wrote.
Milan even assigned nobles loyal to him to keypositions to strenghten his
position. Totally against Lasanar Law.
I decided this had gone too far. I led a rebellion. After one small battle
it was obvious that I was unstoppeble. I had almost secured the palace.
Milan stepped down as Prime Minister. I automaticly became the new one.
Because Milan stepped down, banishment was spared. On the other hand, that
paved the way for a massive protest which proved effective. Daran was
re-elected by fraud. My name wasnt on the list. And I had no chance at
all.
Ryft banned me 3 days later. I never contested the banishment. I knew in
my heart that the Lasanar I ruled was dead, so I never made any effort in
asking to lift this ban. Not even when I rescued Rosalind from Krondor,
daughter of Nataria DuPre, from the White Wulfen in Ahael, and returned
her to Milan. That is just the way of ~V~, we do what we must. I just find
it typical that the man the Nobles of Lasanar worship, Daran Hawk, tried
to trade the live of Rosalind against peace with the Highland Empire. A
republic which accepts that or doesnt condemn that, is not a republic I
wish to live in. To me it is evidence of two separate Lasanars.
Respectfully,
Duke Sarig TithOnanka of Hatdhes
High Marshal and Leader of ~V~, The Hall of Blood and Battle
High Marshal of Nighthelm
