Adelina Driscol reread the letter from Count Valion, focusing only in that
one line, "are we not all birthed into this world thru pain and the chaos of
a first breath...and do we not all pass from this world in chaos as well?"

This was, she thought, so obvious that she couldn't deny it: life begins and
ends in chaos.  Meanwhile, though, she wanted to leave her life peacefully
and as far away from it as possible.  There were too many conflicts she
didn't want to be involved with, and her family had already made too many
enemies.  All she wanted was goodness:  good friends, honourable people to
serve, and good people worth fighting for.

However, all she had right now was Count Valion's offer: to become a knight
of Hupar, and serve a man of dubious honour, whom half the continent wants
to kill.
