Widfara trudged through the countryside of Troyes... Watching his men
"helping" (well, terrorising, so long as there was no other nobles around to
comment on his methods) the locals... "remove"... their administrative
barriers (or in other words, the tax collectors head) - raising loyalty from
the fear factor, and morale from the people toasting the death of this pain
the the posterior.
Taking a step back, he heard a voice speak to him.
Widfara reflects... his mission here, that he didn't have doubts about so
much - that was just fuel for the ends he hoped to achieve - more a
resentment towards one man, now sitting pretty upon his titles, a traitor to
the ideals they had sworn to keep, with another dead and gone - and a sense
that he'd never felt before, wanting to go back, and not charge forward.
"So how's... life? Whatever, you know what I mean."
Widfara grinned, and looked up at the manifestation of Tor - a gust of wind
(Widfara privately wondered if the wind thing was a theme - a pillar of
flame would have been more useful, it was a bit chilly) and wondered what he
was here for.
"Is this another "RANGE 1 MI! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!" sort of meeting?"
"Oh come off it, that was a bad idea."
"I know... I agree. But what are you here for?"
"Well... let's talk for a bit... how've you been keeping? Having fun and
restoring your girth with doughnuts?""
At the mention of doughnuts, Widfara swore quietly under his breath.
"Oh come on, it's only Ryndhal, he can't do much. Oh wait theere's an infil
behind you! Just kiddin with ya."
"Very good... seriously, what are you here for?"
"depends... what do you know about back at the ranch?"
Widfara chuckled derisively.
"Let me guess... my killer is still there, and their general ran for being
voted the headless chicken and passed unanimously except for a few bright
people, and to reflect this he ran the army into the walls of Sandalak
city?"
"Close... Sandalak was destroyed and remade through a secession, Zel has
been protested out, and Toren needs their prophet. Now, if not sooner. They
have no decent general there who can take command."
Widfara growled quietly, knowing full well why he hadn't the eart to tell
him to get lost... a part of him wanted to stay, quietly apart he didn't
want to touch...
"Heheh... I know what you're thinking. It's Ancelin isn't it?"
Widfara swore and hit a wall, while the God chuckled.
"Yeah, yeah... I'm sure you find it funny... I miss her, ok? Everyone has
their weakness."
"Toren needs you Widfara... remember that... you cannot abandon your home to
fate, the people need a saviour who knows what the hell he's doing. And that
man is you. I will see you there..."
Clouds gathered overhead and a wind blew through the fields, and Widfara
knew that Tor was gone. It started to rain slightly, and Widfara murttered
"it always rains on my generation..." and set off back to his command tent,
thoughts and memories weighing deeply on his mind.

I had a mentor, "See the spoon, see the spoon" he used to say, but all I saw
was fish.
