Delvin sinks wearily down in a chair in his tent. Delivering the
body of Duke TVFD3 to the Luz de Bian camp had been one of the more
harrowing experiences of his life...there were a couple of points
when he feared that a soldier would disregard the flag of parley and
try to make a name for himself by capturing the (unarmed, unarmoured,
unresisting) Prime Minister of Riombara...but everyone kept their
cool, and it was all completed with the requisite cool politeness on
both sides.
Now, he glances at his desk, and sees one small message off to the
side of all the others to dig through. It bears the seal of..."King
Marc of Irombrozia." For a moment, anger rises in Delvin...but he's
just too tired to sustain it.
He opens and reads the note: "Congratulations on the victory.
Rueffilo is yours... and Irombrozia releases any claims to it."
With a grimace, Delvin puts it down. They fought by our side...and
now they are relinquishing their "claim"...whatever that was worth to
begin with.
No...to them, it is real. He sighs. I suppose I had best acknowledge
this somehow...
He takes out a sheet of paper and begins writing, grimacing often as
he forces his hand to write things very distasteful to himself:
--
King Marc,
I thank you for this gesture. It will not be forgotten.
This marks also the first time Riombara and Irombrozia march and
fight side-by-side under our new peace treaty. I still feel that
your choice was wrong in declaring Irombro an independent state, but
I do believe that we can work together in this fight. Together, we
can drive Luz de Bia from our lands and teach them what it is to
trifle with Riombarans--current and former.
Though I still believe that there must, in time, be a reckoning
between us, as long as there is a greater threat, Riombara will do
all it can to help you regain the territories lost to you at Luz de
Bia's hands.

He reads what he has written. "Diplomacy," he growls. "The things
we do..." Then he goes to find a scribe to deliver the letter
to...King Marc.
