[META: The following was posted by me, Jeff, Alan.]

The city below was alive with a renewed sense of pride and joy. Maltheo
smiled, breathing it in like the pleasing scent of a ripe fruit. Yet he also
knew that the dead could forget such things as honour and glory. Sometimes
the dead had only wanted to stay alive and have families, to achieve the
simple pleasures and luxuries which Olwe had dismissed.

"Yes," was all he said, nodding. He noted the distant look in Olwe's eyes.
They were the look of a scout who had seen the enemy's army, calmly noted
their strength, and returned to make a report. They were the eyes of a
skilled bowman marking his target. And they were the eyes of his father.

He turned toward the Duke. "Then let us make our stand, whether we are to
fall or not. The people will need guidance, now more than ever. For them,
the politics are not so clear, but the reality of war will be. It is ever
important that we have a Temple of Communion here in Anacan. If we can build
one, I am sure that my family can make an investment in this city. That will
help us, no?"

--

Olwe nodded at Maltheo's 'yes'. He could feel that there was some emotion
the priest held back.

"Aye, I agree... we must have a temple here to guide the people... and to
emphasize our respect for those who fall. Send me but 20 more gold coins,
and I can begin construction immediately."

--

Perrin listens to the Duke and the preist talk of build a temple of the
communion here in anacan. He is troubled by this for some reason and not
sure as to how to take it. He steps forward and speaks his mind.

"Pardon me, my good friends, I respect both of your decisions on the matter
at hand but, and I say this with the most deepest respect for you both as my
friend and for you positions held. I do not see a need for this religions
temples in Anacan just yet. It was after all the seed of religion in our
realm that has brought us to this point in time.

"I propose that we hold off on the building of this temple and instead worry
more about the trying times as a new realm and forming a new government at
this time."

Perrin stood there looking at the two and waited for a responce.

--

Maltheo slipped a few coins into Olwe's grasp, then turned to Perrin. Now he
smiled.

"Perrin Goldeneyes, your concerns are my own. But are we not here to serve
the people? There are no less than 1400 believers in Communion here in
Anacan, and if we are to separate from the Commonwealth, they will be cut
off from their place of worship. Though I do not presume to speak for His
Grace the Duke," he interjected with a nodding reference towards Olwe, "I
would say this endeavor is surely as important as gearing up the engine of
war and politics. Certainly, we will have enough gold for both."

He placed a hand that felt cool to the touch on Perrin's shoulder and looked
him in the eyes. "And it was not religion that has lead us to this point.
Lu'an is a good man, but his experience is his alone. We must work together
now, and not seek to lay blame."
