(META: Olwe shares a letter with the Commonwealth, and his brothers of ~V~)
Beloved Council, Nobles of the Commonwealth
These events have shaken me greatly. The illness of our King has been
a terrible thing... I have remained quiet recently, trying to turn
everything over in my head.
I have come to this conclusion - our King is in no shape to rule. I
have not, myself, decided what he saw, or what is wrong with him...
All I know is that he is no longer fit to rule the people. I have been
his friend and loyal ally... but I fear him to be suffering some form
of dementia... and as Duke of Anacan, I cannot submit my people to
that rule. I would still Welcome Lu'an as my friend, fight beside him
as my brother... but I cannot allow him to rule the people I love any
more.
And as I say that, I tell you this: I have been greatly dissapointed
in the Commonwealth. Look around you - you noble members of the
council. Do you not see the laziness, the posh living, the unmotivated
morass of nobility about you? They shuffle about, from shaky goal to
shaky goal, fighting next to allies they don't really know against
enemies they shouldn't really hate.
What have we become?
I have grown sick of it. I have seen my beloved Commonwealth become
diseased... while all the while at our northern border - at the border
of my city - sits an expansionist hulk of a realm who looks down on us
as inferior, as a little brother. They have gobbled up realm after
realm, set people after people under their yolk... and we have sat
back in our complacence and allowed them to do so.
What foolishness made us wage war on Svunnetland, even after Einar
vanished from office? Was not our quarrel with him alone? Did we not
take vengeance for the raid on Zarimel?
I am a warrior. And as I go on in life, I have begun to learn that
being a warrior does not simply mean that you stride out on a
battlefield and cut down your enemies. A warrior must learn not only
to lead, but to serve. A warrior must serve his people, his brothers,
his fellow warriors, and his lord. He must protect and love them with
all of his heart... Otherwise, he fights for nothing.
I will do what is best for the people of Anacan... who I have fought
for, who I have led, who I have served... and who I have come to love.
This Commonwealth has become a Commonwealth of sheep, with only a few
noble lions standing out in their ranks. And what is an army of sheep,
even if led by a lion? What is an army of lions, if led by a sheep?
So I announce that Anacan will be withdrawing from membership in the
Antoza Commonwealth. The Commonwealth has lost touch with the original
spirit of Anacan... of the people who founded it in the first place.
Those people founded the Commonwealth as a bastion against tyrrany, as
a place of freedom. Now the Commonwealth has become willing to ally
with tyrrany, and has set freedom aside.
The people of Anacan will once more be leaders, once more be
revolutionaries. The city of Anacan will once more be a haven for
Lions, brave and willing to serve the pride.
All who wish to live as warriors - of the sword, of the pen, or of the
coin - will be welcome in Anacan... as long as they wish to serve.
I wish you all peace and long life. May you who remain find some way
to reform the Commonwealth into what it was meant to be.
I am yours, most respectfully -
Olwe of Toren
Arch Priest of Antoza Commonwealth, Duke of Anacan, Marshal of the
army of Anacan
