You must wake up!" Gran was insistent...
"Leave me sleep..." Isolde mumbled...knowing full well she had chores to get up and tend to...but it was far too early for that...
"Wake up! Wake up, child! pay attention! Come on, wake up!" Gran's voice took on a note of irritation...as Da came into the room and added his voice to Gran's trying to coax an unwilling girl from the land of dreams to the waking world...his deep tenor voice rang loud in the small room....
"Stop that lyin and a-sleepin in bed--get up!"
Gran chorused in again with her soft harmony..."Wake up, sleepy-head! Look whos here to see you!"
Isolde turned and opened a sleepy eye....who could be here to visit at such an untoward hour...
Isolde sat bolt upright and shouted, "NO!"
"Aye and is that any way to greet your favorite uncle?" The man standing in the door way said with a smile on his face....
"I am not going...NO!"
"Aye and you are girl...it is no longer safe for you to stay here with your grandparents...it is no longer safe for them..." Sean crossed the room and threw travel pants and a tunic at Isolde...."Get your self dressed quickly lass...we have no time to loose here..."
A falcon landed on the sill of the open window and looked from Isolde to Sean...as if the bird had watched this scene played out before...
Isolde looked at the travel clothes...and then at her uncle and whispered..."Why?"
"There is no easy answer to that question girl..." Sean said as he went to sit by Isolde on the bed...the one I choose to give you for the moment is this..."Your mother has died and the protection she was able to affect during her life is soon to run out and so must we..."
Isolde looked at her uncle...tears welled in the her eyes....and she nodded....understanding passing across her face....she took the clothes and climed out of bed...."How..."
"In battle the messenger said..."
"And uncle Angus?"
"Aye the pickled fool lives still..."
Isolde nodded again...clutching the clothes to her....Gran came over and kissed her forehead....and looked to the men..."Lets be going to the other room...give the girl a moment to dress and be alone with her sorrow...before she must journey forward."
