Thrasymaque returns to the selfsame village he last visited.
   
  Many things have changed. Nobody throws stones or vegetable at him, nobody gets beaten or arrested. Ethialan officials and magistrate administrate fair law, Ethialan flags fly high. The few statues of angels were allowed to stay in place. As he walks in the streets, he is greeted by the village’s elders and a few tradesmen. He had assumed that his speech had some influence on the villagers’ spirit since the takeover succeeded the very next day (he had always been a proud man; assumed many things) so he decided to come back.
   
  “People of Ornaz
   
  You now hail to a new government. As you can see, we are in no way the despots your ancient realm depicted us as. You have all the rights you had in Taith Aenil, in addition to spiritual freedom since Ethiala imposes no religion. Ornaz and its people lost nothing.
   
  - We lost the guidance of the Angels!
   
  - Did you? Do your Angels lack divinity so much that they need the intermediate of one particular government to transmit their guidance to you? Frankly, be proud people! Don’t let an aristocratic clergy dictate you the will of the Heavens. In Ethiala, you will obey the aristocracy but you will believe what you wish. No one, not even the rulers of the mightiest realms, is free of action. At least, let us all be free of thought.”
   
Silence. Thrasymaque leaves the village without addressing a word to anyone else; Zonosian and Aenilian armies are approaching
