(Yesterday)

Early in the morning, Dirrik went from village to village in Villriil
with a small group of aides. He had not brought his full division of
guards, to save time. He sent his messengers from house to house,
seeking knowledge about monsters.

Dirrik often tired of politics and wished he were back on the
battlefield, even though he knew he was fighting for a higher purpose
now. After all, he made his name as a hero fighting the undead and
monsters at the end of the First Scourge, and through the Second.
These un-human foes alone didn't scare him, but the thought of another
Scourge made him uneasy.

As Dirrik searched for insight from the villagers in Villriil, he
finally came across something.

One trader in town reported hearing from a farmer a few miles away
that he'd heard strange noises at night, like from a large beast.
Dirrik suspected there was a lone monster roaming the area, he'd seen
it before. Though he had nothing but a couple of personal guards, he
went straight away to that farm.

The night was beginning to fall, but Dirrik set out to investigate. He
set up camp for the night in a small forest.

As soon as morning broke, Dirrik was under way. Within a few hours, he
found what he was looking for - the lair of a pack of monsters.

There were four of them, the same number as in Dirrik's party. His
guards were not as sure of these odds as Dirrik was, and one
immediately ran away. Dirrik had no time to bring him around, the
monsters were charging towards them.

As the monsters attacked, Dirrik sends his two remaining guards
towards the smaller monster of the group, and singles out the largest
one for himself. Dirrik slayed the first monster with little
difficulty, while the two guards were having trouble with their one.
After a few moments, the monster knocked the sword from one guard,
picked him up, and ate him, causing the last guard to run away in
horror.

Although the first guard who ran away never reports back, the second
runs as quickly as he can to another village, where a militia unit is
stationed, and reports about what happened. The last thing he saw was
Dirrik continuing to fight the three monsters alone.
