The ship was bound for Beluaterra, and it was called the *Gaskit*. It wasn't
a particularly unique ship, one of many frigates that sailed the great
oceans of the world. It carried a usual cargo of various goods and a few
passengers.

So when in the night, after days of increasingly harsh weather, there was a
jarring sound and the ship stopped and began to sink, few on the coast
noticed or cared.

Some survivors of the ship - whose hull had been gutted by an outcropping of
rocks - managed to escape the wreckage and swim ashore. They landed in a
place called Wellaf. One among them was clearly of noble birth, and the crew
had gotten used to deferring to him on that basis - so when the 17 years old
noble took command of the situation, 23 of them listened.

"Alright, men!" he exclaimed, his voice youthful but strong, "We've
survived. Now let's head up the coast and see if we can find some
civilization in this forsaken land!"

So it was that Athys, second of that name, came to Ikalak.
