Maltheo's face was stony. Inwardly, he was rolling his eyes. He had no
intent to duel anyone's second. *This whole war is about seconds... and
thirds and two-thousands... either Corey and Conan will accept my challenge,
or they will not.

Or I'll die here, now.*

As he climbed down into the shallow pit, he couldn't help but become
intensely aware of the Soliferum, Commonwealth and Sanctum soldiers all
around. Even now that his duel was here he half-suspected to feel strong
arms on his shoulders, dragging him off to some dungeon to be tortured by a
cowardly judge while the dishonourable aggressors laughed and looted...

And he was also aware of how very like a grave this place felt.

*Oh well,* he thought. *Here goes nothing...*
