Hoshi sat in the temple...she'd spoken at length with Ariana...the wise counsel and the understanding Ariana offered were a comfort...even if she did not give easy answers or always say what was easy. Ariana was true friend...one who told what she thought and felt...one who also understood that not all choices were so easy...so clear...even if others thought they should be. Hoshi knew in her heart of hearts that Ariana would always be there for her....
She sat quietly in the temple...alone...the domine had given her the peace she asked for in the small chapel...she needed time to think...to pray...heal...even though there were those who thought she should snap to a decision...there were issues at hand she did not wish to hastily put to rest....
The years had been difficult...more difficult than she could have imagined...and since her father died...there were times life seemed unbearable...she wished she could talk to him just one more time...she wished she were a small girl again so her father could scoop her up in his lap and kiss the tears away...
But she was no longer a little girl and there were no longer little girl solutions to her big girl distresses. She must face the fact that she had been unfaithful to her husband so many years ago...there was so much talk in the kingdom of William's wrong doing...of William's greed...of William's lack of character and honor for what he had done...it seemed people were skirting around what she had done...for she had not been forced to walk the path she walked...
She had promised Einar once William was banned he would not be allowed to return...and she had broken that promise...lifted his ban....allowed him to return...appointed him a region...Einar wanted an answer...he wanted to know why...and her answer sounded feeble and hollow...though she meant it to have substance...everything she said and did seemed to make things worse...
Now William had been wounded...the reports indicated it was Serko...her friend...her equal...and in many ways her superior...she spent many days defending the actions of those who danced in the shadows...and that would not change...though she would like to know who ordered the assassination?
Hoshi lit the insence...and slit her palm...letting the drops of blood fall to the alter...and mingle with the jasmine and ash she had placed there...she would take this time to pray for the strength to do what she knew she must.
