Alright. It wasn't made clear yet that they were still in the realm.

if they came up with a solid RP reason for both joining the realm AND
leaving it immediately, then I could see some small amount of understanding,
still I believe it wasn't the right thing to do.

And this other situation you describe with a realm giving away their land I
can't agree with either under SMA. It's most definitely powergaming.
