Sounds rather clever, actually. Nothing says a noble has to be honest in
his pledge of fealty. Perhaps he views the realm's banner as a flag of
conveniece?
He's only flying the flag of the realm for a short time in order to
deceive the locals. It may not fit your view of a noble, but I can see
it as something a slighty-less-than-honorable noble might do in order to
make a safe midnight passage.
It all depends on how it is handled by the player. If he provides
suitable explanation *when asked*, then this is fine. If he replies with
an OOC "I'm just passing through and don't want to be captured", then
you could have a case for a complaint. In any case, if you don't ask him
for an explanation, and he gets in, through, and out without notice then
that's your problem, not his.

Thank you. That's my point exactly. Again, the GM's have already ruled
and the characters have already been deported of the island so in many
ways it doesn't matter at this point. However, what does keep this
conversation meaningful is that there are several situations I know of
(my character is still on Dwilight and was not deported, incase you were
wondering) that are doing the same kinds of things that these players
did and I don't see any of them getting deported which seems a bit
unfair... And unless there is a better understanding of the reasons then
more people are likely to get deported as well and still not understand
why.
