The essential crime came before that- desertion against orders when
half the regions of their realm were under siege by monsters. Even more,
keeping the recruitment centers drained so that nobles who were honoring
their pledges to their lords couldn't find sufficient manpower to defend
their land. Everything else was just icing on the cake.

Hmm... I don't think that desertion/using the RC's etc is reason to call
it power gaming and get deported from the island...
