Well, there are activities in the game.  And so it must be possible to 
put activities into the game without them being bad.

Lord and Council members have tasks that are mandatory, yet that is fine 
with everyone.

So perhaps the solution could be something quite different - creation of 
a new class that is like a Super-Knight.  Ie a Knight who has chosen and 
signed up to do more stuff.  Like a Hero accepts he might die, and a 
Lord accepts that he needs to deal with knights and taxes and things.

That way really simple knights can go on being sheep following around 
orders and only requiring 20seconds of playing time per day, but a 
not-so-simple knight would still be battle-focussed, and have more 
choices and responsibility.  Another way to look at it, would be to add 
things to the simple Cavalier instead of the simple Knight.
