I dunno, I would almost think it would be an embarrassment to your 
family.  Remember, according to the standard explanation, your 
adventurer did not "get ennobled," he just proved that he was noble all 
along.

Having missed that isn't something that your family would want to 
advertise; they'd rather just sweep it under the rug and say, "Uh, yeah, 
he was a noble all along, he was just, um, off in the Colonies before. 
Yeah, that's it."

That's my interpretation, anyway.
