[Discuss] Changing family history

So, with all the discussion about proper RP and all, here's a question
I've been wondering about for a while. I either mis-read or
mis-interpreted the family creation stuff (I did read the wiki! At
least, most of it), and thought that I was creating a "new noble family"
in the sense that my characters were going to be the first actual nobles
of the family. I didn't like the idea of being knighted for military
service or whatever, so chose the rather non-medieval concept of a rich
merchant marrying into an impoverished noble house, and having the
family start with the first son of that union. Given that the family
was barely noble anyway, tossing in a bastard son and another
almost-peasant didn't seem to be a big deal. It was only when
adventurers became part of the game that I realized my mistake, and have
been pondering how to deal with it since. I kinda like the RP
opportunities (I'm frankly shocked that Arlian's nobility hasn't been
questioned yet, for instance), but I also have mentored (little "m", but
still) several new players, and I'm not happy with the idea that I'm
perpetuating bad RP.

So...Is it worse form to keep it as is, or to go in and come up with a
different background history for...well, I guess two characters
(although I may just delete one of them)?
