I still think history adds flavour, to an extent. Character history
adds flavour, if it isn't overdone (aka powergamed). People who know
the characters know the families, and if they are willing to take
advantage of it, they will anyway. I have specifically saved one
character spot to start on Dwilight (I'm not that long on BM), but I
have more RP reasons to send my SEI char there.
And, anyway, the SEI character is much more developed, I know a bit
what she likes now, what she dislikes, if she has a sense of honor, or
not, etc, something that will still take me a while to figure with the
new character, and that might make a huge difference on helping the
development of a world. Less time spent figuring out what a character
is, and more time on developing the realm characteristics.
Now, the largest ever reason I'd give for opening for immigration is
the huge unfairness to people that have their character slots filled.
They are already being penalized since they'll have to wait much
longer to send the characters there, and all the honor and prestige
loss, and money. Some of the players are committed, excellent players,
and you are asking for them to come with a lame RP reason to kill
their characters? Characters that would probably never kill
themselves, nor duel without a very good reason... Characters that
have their age and skills that can't be replaced, and many times
they'd have to kill 2 characters to create 1. So there isn't even the
"you can just pretend he never died and recreate him" excuse.
If you can just delete your char(s) for an OOC reason like this,
unless the char was very new, I'd rather not see you in Dwilight (not
100% of the cases, but most of them).
