Ported from the topic I mistakenly posted it in:
This might be going too far, but perhaps some manner of tag system could be
set up. It seems reasonable to me that a Duke or Lord would want to attract
Lords and Knights who were like him. That is to say, if you're the Duke,
and your character is a Cavalier type who would put himself in dire personal
risk to save the damsel in distress, you should be able to, publically or
privately, somehow 'declare' that, and new players can decide what type of
character they want to play, and join into an atmosphere that is similar to
that. Likewise, if you're a logical type who studies maps and tactics, you
should associate with people who are similar.
I think this would add to the game in several ways. First, it would make it
easier for new players to see what kind of RP is acceptable and desirable.
It would also usher them into a higher quality of RP by putting them with
people that have the same general ideas in mind, but more experience.
It would also contribute to the military structure situation by encouraging
ducal armies - If you have essentially the same goals and agendas as the
people around you, fighting with them will be easier and rewarding. Put two
quite different ducal armies together, however, and there will be friction
(The cavalier will want to charge straight away into their ranks for the
glory of battle, whereas the strategic one will want to study the lay of the
land, come up with better tactics, etc.)
So if a character identified themselves with certain tags that referred to
the personality of their character (this can be rp'd as a new knight asking
around "Who is your Lord, what is he like, etc), and their duchy takes on
those characteristics, everyone could be "sorted" per se, resulting in fun
rp with characters similar to your own, and fun rp when you are forced to
interact with characters unlike your own.
