Nope. They were just talking about passing it around to get the
adventurers ennobled. Nothing about the item itself being anything
special, and, indeed, they were asking if people had other items that
could be used to help with it.
I can understand their motives, but it doesn't change the fact that it
was a flagrant abuse of the game mechanics.
