I think you're right on with this, John. The person you're looking for
may be VERY well known, but you don't have the resources to act on that.
Most people did not travel 5 miles from where they were born, and you
want to know the exact time someone is a certain location? There was
simple not enough travel for a commoner to be able to get that by
asking. It may be possible with a bunch of people working for you, but
not for you to do alone with just asking people (of course ignoring that
messages travel instantly for game play purposes).
I believe adventurers were originally not allowed this for game play
reasons. If I had an adventurer in another realm, I could easily look
at where their troops were, and possibly warn my realm of a surprise attack.
