Because it's perceived as outrageously presumptuous? I probably wouldn't
make the noble a counter oath at all if they asked for too much - if I'm
right, no-one else will have them for that amount anyway, so needs will
force them to shove off, or effectively grovel a bit for a lower amount
later anyway (and in the mean time, I keep the extra gold!). It's a
win-win situation really. But not all Dukes behave like bastards.
But, maybe that's just me. *makes mental note to find John's region and
ask for 99%*
