I agree with all that you mentioned (which I snapped).

For the suggestion, though, I must say, I thought one of the
objectives of having a percentage for EACH knight, was for the knight
to be able to negotiate with his liege. If you feel like your knight
is specially useful or your realm lacks knights, or you have a very
good reason (like a huge army you need to sustain, or something), or
even just a very smooth talk, you can get your liege to increase YOUR
percentage, only.

It adds a bit of politics, and somewhat power to the knight, or the liege.

Though I understand the problem, I would rather see the course
expenses diminished, and keep a larger share for the realm... Or
having the realm deal with them anyway. I find it only adds fun to the
game having each knight putting effort on getting more or less money.
Some lords could even make of it a competition. :)
