BM even supports the ideas of Paladins in Theocracies by merit of the 
general title (Paladin Primus - so RP it to include marshals, army 
members, every noble who wants to be one...)

I try and play one of my chars as an ex-paladin for that very reason, 
but he's very depressing, so I don't put as much effort into it as I 
probably should.
