OK, thinking out loud time. First it seems like a good idea to try
and define the problem and what we have to work with dealing with it.
Problem: Reduce effectiveness of large alliances and realms *without*
adversely affecting small realms, and moderate-sized alliances of
small realms.
Game-mechanic metrics we can use to determine "large": number of
realms, number of regions, total land area, total number of peasants,
total number of nobles, total honour/prestige of nobles, total number
of troops, total CS of troops, total gold produced, total food
produced...I'm sure I'm missing a few, help me out here ;-)
Game-mechanic measures we can use to encourage or discourage: region
morale, region loyalty, region control, region production, region
allegiance, troop morale, troop cohesion, combat strength, random
battles, troops refusing to fight, monster/undead spawnings,
automatic diplomacy adjustments, honour/prestige, automatic position
removal/grants...again, feel free to add your own
This should serve as a starting point...now let's see if we can think
of some good ways to put it all together.
