One of the things I've found about BM is that sending private/personal 
messages to other nobles is a much better way to get promoted quick than 
talking to the entrire realm.

For example, being friendly with your duke and talking to him regularly 
is likely to get you noticed by him faster, and thus you can try and get 
appointed to that nice 200 gold 250 food region that just went lordless, 
than if you talk to the whole realm, which while nice isn't so effective.
