Commoners are to be ordered around, and if they don't treat you with  
respect, you arrest them, beat them, or behead them.  After all,  
there are always more where they came from.

...The only trouble with this is, of course, that at the moment,  
there *aren't* more where they came from--not yet, anyway.  Once  
adventurers are plentiful, this type of thing shouldn't be as much of  
a problem.
