  That's polytheism. In some usage, pagan is used as shorthand for
neo-pagan- the modern derivations or reconstructions of old European
beliefs or Earth worship, some of which are all over the board-
polytheism, monotheism, pantheism, animism, and even simple organized
spirituality are represented.

  The BattleMaster context, though, is pretty clear- there are still
peasants with homegrown beliefs that don't have the sanction of being
an official noble religion that perfectly fit the bill for pagan as it
was used in the corresponding period.
