So we scrap nationalism, and make realms consist of loosely united
regions within a border. They basically live separate existences except
for times of war. I also like the idea of having local lords have more
control over their food distribution by limiting the bankers override
feature. I would like to see it go even further. Allow for internal
combat. Let's say Region A is causing problems by refusing to send his
tithing to the realm or food to starving regions or is just being a
general pain in the backside and has holed himself up in his region with
his knights, would there be a mechanic in place to allow other regions
or a Duke or imperial army or something similar that you find acceptable
to march in and set him straight? Ooo! Ooo! Or better yet let each
region lord have a scaled down version of diplomatic relations...he can
be peaceful with his neighbor or hostile, and whenever his knights meet
with a hostile region's knights in a respective home turf they have
little skirmishes. Maybe not full scale battles, but something that
might leave a soldier or three injured or maybe dead. This way if a
nation wishes to go to war they would have to organize or "unite" their
local lord's first.
I may have let my imagination get away there, but this would definitely
bring action to Realms that are surrounded by allies...which we all know
can be very boring.
