If someone shows a 
movie that looks like a Steven Spielberg, and no one can tell the 
difference, it doesn't matter if Spielberg says he didn't make the movie.

if the director or artist denies it's theirs, ever considered they could be lying? Perhaps they didn't like the picture/sculpture/film, or it brings bad memories for them, so to distance themselves they just say it was nothing to do with them and must be a fake. Just because they say they had nothing to do with it, doesn't mean they're telling the truth...
